Maize grain yield was estimated by harvesting the ears in the central area of the 18.0 m2 (six rows, 5 m length) of maize in each plot to obtain fresh weight. All the kernels were oven dried at 60 °C to constant weight and then the ratio of kernels to ears was determined and kernel moisture was calculated. The final grain yield was adjusted to 14% moisture content basis. The number of grains per spike was determined by counting the grains on every spike from 10 randomly selected plants in each plot before harvest. The thousand-kernel weight (TKW) was determined using the weight of three sets of 500 kernels from each plot.
