The same can be said for the Pakistan floods, the Rusian droughts and even the record high temperatures. That uncertainty, along with the suspicion that even if such events are due to global warming it may be too late to do much about it, go a long way toward explaining the lack of resolve on the issue. But even if we can't know what is really going on when it comes to climate change, we can be certain that there are tremendous benefits to be gained from making a transition away from fossil fuels. Aside from leading to a much cleaner and benefits environment, one of the most important benefits if such a transition is that it would break the hold that the big oil companies have over all of us, and obviously over our governments as well. This is shown throughout the unfolding saga of the BP Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The US government was complicit at every stage of BP's efforts to down play the magnitude of the spill, and since the well has been capped and now plugged it has been doing everything it can to declare the whole sad affair over and done with.
