BTS riders aren’t pleased about the rise in ticket prices rumored to be coming to the stations at the farthest reaches of the Silom and Sukhumvit train lines.
Residents are always complaining about the high BTS fares, but now there is a proposal on the table to raise fares even higher for stations further than Saphan Taksin on the Silom Line and On Nut on the Sukhumvit Line.
No one likes a fare hike and this one has been met with the usual amount of displeasure.
Twitter user Tumsoma directed a message at the Governor and the BTS official accounts: “The farthest extension stations will someday reach THB80-90, right?”
According to Khaosod English, a source at Bangkok’s Traffic and Transport Department leaked the information about the proposed new rates recently and said that they are simply related to an increase in the cost of doing business in today’s economic climate.
If approved, the new fares mean that passengers traveling past the above-mentioned stations will have to pay an extra THB5-10. And that’s over the extra THB10 that they are already paying to get to those outposts.
