Not surprisingly, our study indicates that the incidence of plastic ingestion
by post-hatchling loggerhead turtles stranded along the South
African coast in 2015 (60%) is higher than in the late 1960s and early
1970s (12%; Hughes, 1970, 1974a; χ2 = 20.39, P b 0.001), although
there were marked regional differences in ingestion rates between the
Eastern and Western Capes in 2015
