A wish judge
Once upon a time there lived two brothers named Edmund and Alfred. One day Edmund set off to go on long journey, but ere he departed he went to his brothe, gave him a very valunable ring, and asked him to take care of it till he returned. Many months passed, and at last Edmund came home; but when he went to his brother for the ring, the latter refused to give it him, declared that the ring was his. The matter was brought before a judge, who asked Edmund where he had given his brother the ring. Edmund replied that they were standing under a large oak treat the time, but Alfred declared that he did not know of such a tree. Then the judge asked Edmund to leave the court, and bring a branch of the very tree. When he had been gone a few minutes, the judge remarked that he was a long time in returning, but Alfred said, "Oh, my Lord, the tree is a long way off" "Ah! " said the judge, "an yet you said that you did not know the tree. You have betrayed yourself. "He was ordered to restore the ring, and was sent to prison.
