UPPER gastrointestinal hemorrhage continues
to be a major clinical problem. Accurate
diagnosis and proper management
are often difficult. In search of a better
understanding of this problem we have reviewed
the records from January 1, 1964
through December 31, 1968 of all adults
hospitalized at Charity Hospital with bleeding
from the gastrointestinal tract proximal
to the ligament of Treitz. This report contains
our analysis, comments, and recommendations.
