For science project, one student group studied the emission of carbon dioxide of individual and idled cars on the air quality; the second student group did research on the relationship between carbon dioxide emission in the air and children’s breathing; the third group researched the greenhouse effect and global warming to learn about long-term effects of local air pollution. For mathematics project, students turned the data into Microsoft Excel to generate a line graph, so as to present their results through Power Point, poster, expository essay, comic, and pamphlet. For social studies project, writing workshop was provided to teach students how to write business letters. It was helpful for them to write the reports of local and global research on car emissions, greenhouse gases, negative health effects, and interviews with adults and children in their school community. Through the English language arts project, the idea of “Green Day” was suggested to the school principal. It would be one of the ways to raise the public awareness of air pollution, its adverse effects, and individual responsibilities (Cortez-Riggo, 2011).
