The mitigation of vulnerability from gas dependence could basically be carried out in two ways, namely reducing gas dependence or by reducing the cost of natural gas for power generation. However, reducing gas price for power sector is a complicated task as it would definitely affect the whole gas supply chain requiring a thorough consideration by the government in the national energy policy. In contrast, diversifying the fuel mix for power generation could reduce vulnerability from gas dependence significantly as observed from the addition of coal fired power plants between 2013 and 2019 in two scenarios of this study. However, the environmental effects of promoting coal fired power plant in the light of global warming issues cannot be ignored
