HVDC transmission technology is a good option to solve the problem with the ever increasing short circuit currents of large-scale synchronous interconnected power systems.
In this paper, a new concept, optimal transmission conversion (OTC), is proposed to strategically convert AC lines to HVDC for limiting short circuit currents
The OTC problem is formulated as an MINLP model. The objective of the OTC model is to minimize the converting cost of HVDC.
Distinguished from existing models of power system planning, the constraints of OTC model incorporate the short circuit current limitation.
