The objectives of this study were to evaluate thetest-retest reliability and construct validity of the Thaiversion of knee osteoarthritis outcome scores (ThaiKOOS). Thai version of KOOS was translated fromthe original English version. In the first phase, testretestreliability was investigated in participants withknee osteoarthritis (OA) who completed the ThaiKOOS twice within 14 days. Test-retest reliability wasassessed using Intraclass correlation coefficients(ICC) and Cronbach's alpha within 5 domains. Inthe second phase, participants completed theKOOS. Knee extensor and flexor strength of bothsides were evaluated and also the timing to perform4 functional tasks including walking 15 meters, getup from chair and walk 15 meters, ascending anddescending 11 steps of stairs (Aggregated functionalperformance time, AFPT). Constructed validity wasassessed using Spearman's correlation coefficientto test the relationship of each KOOS domain tomuscle strength and AFPT. The results showed thatthere were 25 participants (18 females, age 63.4 ± 7.0) in the first phase. High reliability (ICC = 0.78-0.82)for pain and activity daily living domains andacceptable reliability (ICC = 0.71-0.72) for sport andrecreation and quality of life domains were foundwhile lower but still acceptable ICC = 0.45) forsymptoms were recorded. Cronbach's alpha forinternal consistency reliability from all domains was0.9. In the second phase, data obtained from 48participants (37 females, age 66.15 ± 7.32) showedmoderate correlation of 2 domains of KOOS includingsport and recreation domain and quality of life domainto knee flexor and extensor muscle strength of theknee OA side (r =0.35-0.5). Outcomes from 4 domainsexcept pain domain showed moderate correlationto AFPT (r = 0.38-0.5). In conclusion, Thai KOOSwas demonstrated with acceptable reliability andvalidity in Thai participants with knee OA.
