Mosquito larvae
Anopheles gambiae s.s. larvae were obtained from a
colony maintained at the International Center of Insect Physiology
and Ecology (ICIPE) insectary. This strain originated from Mbita-
ICIPE station in western Kenya and it has been reared since 2003
at ICIPE-Nairobi insectary. Eggs were allowed to emerge in
plastic containers filled with distilled water, and were transferred
to large plastic pans (37 x 31 x 6 cm) at densities of 200-300 at the
second instar stage. Larvae were fed on tetramin® fish food, and
water temperature maintained at 26±2 oC throughout larval
development.
