who experienced physical abuse were more likely to report a new unwanted pregnancy. A parallel ethno- graphic study conducted among young women from the study cohort show that women reported feeling little-to- no ability to control their sexual or reproductive lives (30). Although the findings on violence and unwanted teenage pregnancy reported here reflect multiple nuanced links at the level of individual analysis, it is likely that the pervasive context of women’s disempowerment, created in part through the common occurrence of violence, also contributes to unwanted pregnancy.
