Beliefs and attitudes
Table 2 compares medical and non-medical students' beliefs and attitudes toward smoking. Current smokers and non-smokers in each group are presented separately. Smokers were more likely than non-smokers to report benefits of smoking. This was true for both medical and non-medical students (2.2 versus 1.1, and 2.3 versus 1.3, respectively). On average, however, there was no meaningful difference between medical and non-medical students. Smokers as well as non-smokers reported drawbacks to smoking, although non-smokers were more negative. Again, there was little difference between medical and non-medical students.
