In essence, no knowledge management tool stands alone, knowledge management tools can only be understood in the context in which they are used and the methodologies that support them. If the focus is too much on the tools of knowledge management then we may misrepresent knowledge itself, as there are many different types of knowledge within individuals or organizations and this richness of knowledge may be lost if we place too much emphasis on one particular type of knowledge or knowledge culture, as this is likely to `hollow out' the knowledge of the individual or organization and leave them competitively vulnerable (knowledge has a ?nite shelf life).
