INTRODUCTION
The type 316 stainless steel including SS304 are well known in many areas of application like oil and gas operations, petrochemical and corrosive environment and would continue to find widespread applications due to its superior coirosion resistance. However, the use of 304 stainless steel in tribology applications is found still limited because of a relatively its low hardness and poor performances [1-2], For instance, the presence of the fine sand particles and H2S gas contained in fluid material like crude oil could lead to the erosion and abrasion of the steel [3], Although, erosion and abrasion are different in the physical mechanism, however, both are to presence a similar effect that is removal of surface material because of friction and successive impact of hard particles flowing at substantial velocities. Hence, erosion and abrasive resistance of the SS 304 should be improved. Especially, improvement in mechanical properties e.g. yield strength, touglmess, hardness of the surface.
