3.3. Red color and the Bekko pattern
We sampled four crosses, in which both red and Bekko phenotypes segregated, to study the interaction between these two phenotypes. The proportion of progeny with Bekko pattern was compared to the proportion of those without Bekko pattern, within each of the three red phenotypes (Fig. 3). For example, the proportion of Sanke (considered as Kohaku with Bekko patem) was compared to that of Kohaku. The average proportion of progeny with Bekko pattern was similar to the average proportion of those without Bekko pattern, within each category of red phenotype (contingency y1 test, p=0.59).
