iBeacon as a low cost , low energy consumption tiny device
with BLE technology is widely used in commercial fields,especially in retail areas. Its characteristics make it available to
applied in museum scenario, and provide visitors with chance
to interact with collection of an exhibition ultimate supports at
real time.
In this research, we addressed a system design in which
iBeacons is utilized, visitors are able to get navigation and
interaction with collections based on visitors proximity
location and retention time. It will be great helpful to the
visitors in the following points:
Push more personalized information for visitors based on
iBeacon technology, and then facilitate their learning and
consumption in a museum.
Adjust and trace visitors’ behaviors via iBeacons, so as to
estimate visitor interests, and then, sent relative advertisements
later. Good experience in the museum will attract more repeat
visitors. The larger the repeat visitors are, the more chance the
local culture can be protected and broadcasted.
There are still many works have to be done in order to
improve this iBeacon based system. Such as, the criterions by
which to judge visitors interests and potential demands; the
method based on how to judge which collection will be
notified automatically if the visitor stands in the center of
several collections in a museum hall, etc.
