The Alexandria Health Department is looking to fill two (2) seasonal Environmental Health Specialist I positions working as Pool Inspectors from April 29, 2013 through September 13, 2013 (40 hours per week). Position duties include, but are not limited to, inspecting swimming pools and spas for compliance with the City of Alexandria's Aquatic Health Ordinance; verifying credentials of lifeguards and pool operators; checking pool area for hazards and obstructions; checking clarity of water in pool; performing chemical tests to check pH and free chlorine residual of pool water; inspecting operation of pool filtration system; inspecting pool and associated facilities for cleanliness; issuing tickets (civil fines) for violations as appropriate; preparing inspection reports; and entering inspection reports into the VENIS database system. Consults with Environmental Health Supervisor and Senior Environmental Health Specialists on technically difficult issues or enforcement problems. Compiles data and reports on violations. Expected productivity: 8 to 10 pool inspections per day
