Due to an urgent need of agricultural production planning system in the country, the government of Thailand has initiated the agricultural crop zoning system and set up the agricultural economics zone since 2012. The six major crops which are of economically importance to the Thai economy were selected, these are rice, cassava, rubber, palm oil, sugar cane and maize. In order to assist in the implementation of zoning policy, NECTEC has been developing the Agricultural Data Integration and Zoning Optimization Modeling (what2grow) in order to find the appropriateness of a specific major crop for a particular area and province.
