Jong Suk laughed. ‘Arasso. But you’re blushing,’ he poked one of Shin Hye’s cheeks.
‘Ya! It’s just the alcohol,’ she snapped back.
At this point, Min Ho was seething. He almost didn’t notice that Yong Hwa was approaching the table. When he saw him, he pursed his lips. Great. Just great.
‘Oh, Yong Hwa, wasso?’ Woo Bin walked to greet him with a hand shake.
‘Annyeong,’ Yong Hwa told everyone. ‘Shin Hye, long time no see,’ he smiled at her before giving her a side hug. ‘Congratulations. You deserve it.’
Shin Hye gave Min Ho a glance as if apologizing. ‘Ah, yeah. Gumawo, Yong Hwa.’
‘Ya, seriously, where are the girls?’ Min Ho asked Woo Bin again as he finished his glass of wine. The other guys laughed.
‘Yoo Ji Ahn is coming with some of her friends. Don’t worry,’ he told him nonchalantly after taking a sip.
Just then, Min Ho received a text. He looked at Shin Hye who was now holding her phone and giving him the stink eye.
Shin Hye: Ya! Why do you keep asking for girls? Do you want to die?
He typed vigorously.
Min Ho: Look around. You’re practically the only girl here. If they don’t come soon, all the guys will be flocking around you. Do you want to torture me? You already have a blonde puppy following you around.
Shin Hye chuckled as she read his message. Everyone suddenly turned to her. She smiled awkwardly, ‘Ha ha ha—this is fun. Happy New Year, everyone!’ She held her glass up. The others clinked their glasses and greeted Happy New Year right back. The other guests noticed and started toasting and cheering, too.
‘Shin Hye!’ She turned around to see who called her and saw Park Se Young. She put her glass down and excitedly walked to greet her, ‘Eonnie!’ They hugged, and Se Young gave Min Ho a little wave. He waved right back and saw the two girls move to a corner to talk.
Min Ho sighed, relieved. Woo Bin then nudged him, ‘hyung, do you and Shin Hye have a thing?’ It was loud enough for Yong Hwa and Jong Suk to hear. They looked at him, waiting for his response.
He studied the three guys and laughed awkwardly ‘Ya, what are you talking about? No, we don’t.’
‘Ani, you two just seemed different at the awards show. I thought maybe you started dating when we wrapped up filming,’ he told him.
Min Ho cleared his throat. ‘You know we were all busy after filming. How did we have time to date?’
Woo Bin nodded, ‘that’s true. We all thought you two had a thing, though. Must be the drama,’ he continued, taking another sip. ‘Jong Suk-ah, you have a chance now,’ he teased his friend.
Jong Suk just smiled.
If there was ever a moment Min Ho wanted to announce to the world who he was dating, that was it. He wanted to pull Jong Suk aside and tell him he has no chance, and he will never have a chance because Shin Hye was already taken. By him. Forever. And he wanted Yong Hwa to disappear because, well, he was scared that the rumors were actually true and he can’t possibly like anyone who dated Shin Hye in the past.
He glared at Woo Bin. This is the worst party ever.
As if Woo Bin read Min Ho’s mind, he suddenly addressed all his guests. ‘Ya, ya! This party is getting boring. Let’s play some drinking games!’ The guests started standing up and moved to Woo Bin’s living room, including Jong Suk and Yong Hwa.
Min Ho stayed where he was and saw Shin Hye turn around and smile at him. He wasn’t really in the brightest of moods and so he pouted at her, while unconsciously glancing at all the guys around. Shin Hye tilted her head before raising her hand and wiggling her fingers. It took a while before Min Ho realized she was showing him the ring he just gave. He broke into a smile.
Yes. She’s mine.
He walked up to the other guys and decided to enjoy himself.
Shin Hye saw Min Ho join the guys who were now playing games. He looked at him lovingly and hoped that he was having a great time. After all the stress from his activities, he should have some fun with friends.
‘Did you tell him yet?’
Shin Hye turned to Se Young and furrowed her brows. ‘Tell who what?’
Se Young nodded in Min Ho’s direction. ‘Did you tell him you have a dating ban?’ She told her.
‘Dating ban? You know the president was joking about that, right? Only idols have dating bans.’ Shin Hye replied. She cleared her throat. ‘And even if that were true, why would I tell him?’
Se Young eyed her before she sighed resignedly. ‘It’s fine. I’ll wait until you’re ready to tell me,’ she told her. ‘But I’m telling you now, the president won’t be happy.’
Shin Hye stayed silent as she thought about what Se Young said. She’s been too happy the past few weeks that she hasn’t thought about what the company was going to say when they find out. Surely, they wouldn’t mind that she’s dating. But it’s a completely different story when they find out she’s dating Lee Min Ho.
‘That’s why I’m getting married. So I can date openly,’ Se Young told her, smiling.
‘Do you know who your husband is yet?’ Shin Hye asked her curiously.
‘Nope. I hope it’s not an idol, though. I’m too scared of fan girls ripping me apart,’ she replied. ‘I’m meeting him later today… which reminds me, I probably have to get going. Can’t have eyebags when I meet my husband.’ Se Young looked around for Woo Bin and saw him chugging beer with two other guys while the rest cheered.
‘Just tell Woo Bin I left, okay? I’ll text you as soon I know who it is,’ she turned to Shin Hye and gave her a hug. ‘And don’t let him drink too much. He’s still driving, right?’ Se Young winked at Shin Hye before heading to the door. As she watched Se Young, Shin Hye thought about the fangirls she had to deal with if they find out about her and Min Ho. She shuddered.
Shin Hye turned back to the boys who were now laughing hard after Jong Suk accidentally spat some beer in Woo Bin’s face. Shin Hye laughed at the silliness. Boys will be boys. She looked at Min Ho who was clutching his stomach while laughing hysterically and couldn't help but smile. She walked to the kitchen counter to get herself some more wine.
‘Shin Hye,’ she heard someone call her and turned around. Yong Hwa was smiling as he leaned on the counter.
‘Oh. Why aren’t you over there?’ She asked him. ‘Do you want some?’
‘I can’t really drink anymore,’ he replied, waving his hand. She felt him watch her as she poured. ‘So how have you been?’
‘I’m great. Still a little tired, but I’m managing,' She turned to face him and took a little sip. 'How about you? How did your performance go?’
‘You know we always bring it,’ he replied nonchalantly.
‘Of course,’ Shin Hye chuckled. ‘Oh yeah, Geun Suk oppa called me last Christmas. Did he call you, too?’
‘Ani. He didn’t. But you were always his favorite, so I don’t mind. We should all get together some time,’ he told her. ‘And by the way, your drama was really good. Min Hyuk made us all watch it in one seating. But he was holding the remote control so he kept skipping to just his parts.’
She laughed hard. ‘So how did you know it was good then?’
‘Min Hyuk told us it was, so we just assumed. And the ratings were great so…’ he looked at her shyly. Shin Hye suddenly missed her friend. It’s been so long since they last talked face to face.
‘Shin Hye, listen, I’m sorry about – uh…you know…’ he struggled to finish the sentence.
‘Don’t be. It’s totally okay. I understand,’ Shin Hye cut him off and smiled. ‘It’s one of the downsides of our job. I’m glad to see you though.’
Yong Hwa scratched his head before beaming at her. ‘Yeah, same here.’
Shin Hye looked over to where the guys were and saw Min Ho looking in their direction. He looked like he’d been staring at them for a while. She was suddenly aware of Yong Hwa beside her. ‘Should we join them?’ She asked him before walking to the boys.
Min Ho followed her with his eyes and scrunched up his nose when she stood right beside him.
‘I know he’s in your blacklist,’ Shin Hye looked up at him as she whispered. ‘But he really is one of my closest friends so you be nice.’
Min Ho smiled.
When the party died down, people were going home one by one, wanting to leave before it was bright outside.
Woo Bin came up to Shin Hye. ‘How are you getting home? Did you drive here? You can’t drive if you drank too much.’
Oh wow. I didn’t think of this. ‘Huh? No, I didn’t bring my car. I’ll just ask my manager to pick me up.’ She fiddled with her phone.
‘I’ll bring you home,’ Min Ho walked up to them.
‘Eh?’ Shin Hye eyed him. Ya. Woo Bin is right there.
‘It’s past 5 A.M. Don’t bother your manager. I just had one glass of wine so I can drive you home,’ Min Ho replied. ‘Right, Woo Bin-ah?’
Woo Bin nodded his head. ‘Yeah, Min Ho hyung can take you,’ he told her. ‘Unless you want someone else to take you home? I bet anyone you ask here won’t mind,’ he raised his brow and pointed to his guests who were still there.
Shin Hye playfully hit him. ‘Anya, it’s okay. Oppa can take me. Thanks,’ she said to Min Ho.
‘Keunde…’ Woo Bin started to say, ‘hyung, is your car heavily tinted? Reporters are extra cunning today since it’s a special occasion. They might misunderstand and think you two spent the night together,’ he laughed.
‘Meo?’ Shin Hye and Min Ho chimed in unison.
‘I’m not kidding, though. You two be careful,’ he tapped their arms before walking away to say goodbye to his other guests.
‘Oppa, ottoke? I didn’t think this far ahead,’ she whispered to Min Ho.
‘Me, too. Should I drop you off at home? Or is that too dangerous?’
‘No, don’t. Maybe drop me off somewhere and I can take a cab home,’ she replied.
‘No way. That’s even more dangerous,’ Min Ho replied. ‘Shall we call your manager instead?’
‘But I told him last night that I was driving to the party. If we call him, he’ll just ask me who I came here with,’ she replied. ‘I’m an actress but I’m really bad at
Jong Suk laughed. ‘Arasso. But you’re blushing,’ he poked one of Shin Hye’s cheeks.
