The maximum OD
for the control group was 0.39 (i.e. 1.17 108 cells/mL), whereas it
was only 0.268 (i.e. 0.804 108 cells/mL) for the chitin and chitosan
treated samples. So it is clear that while chitin and chitosan were
equally inhibitory against E. coli, only 31% of the bacteria could be
killed after 4 h of incubation, compared to the untreated control.
