How serious is the threat of climate change occurring due to large-scale use of wind turbines? The two groups who explored this possibility for the first time [21] and [55] were quick to caution that a lot more sophisticated modeling, backed-up by field observations, would be needed to be able to realistically forecast the extents of the impacts. All subsequent authors have echoed this sentiment even as each new study is deepening the realization that a) wind turbines do impact the local weather; b) the impacts are neither neglible nor confined to the vicinity of the turbines; and c) the possibility of long-term impacts on climate is high but it can not be said how severe the impacts can be.
