The present study showed that perinatal outcomes in women with a
twin pregnancy and pregestational DM are determined by the presence
of the twin pregnancy rather than by the type of diabetes or the interaction
between twin pregnancy and diabetes. This is consistent with previous
results [18] demonstrating that, in cases of singleton pregnancy,
perinatal outcomes are similar in cases of type 1 and type 2 DM,
although adverse perinatal outcomes are mediated by different mechanisms.
A subsequent meta-analysis [19] confirmed these observations.
