One example of this is right here in this book. In Appendix A: Layout Sketches,
you will find a lot of graphics that are intended to give you some inspiration when
it comes to designing your own layouts. I could have used different colors to differentiate
things like the page borders or reference map boxes. I could have used
differentcolors
to emphasize certain text items and arrows as well. But would this
have obscured the overall intent of these layout sketches, which is to simply provide
an overall quick glance of a potential layout schema? I think it would have. As they
are, the black and white lends a certain amount of simplicity to the graphics that
make them easy to scan and flip through.
