Measuring the Effectiveness of Training
Donald Kirkpatrick organized the measurement of
training effectiveness (value, worth, and merit)
into four levels. These levels are listed below,
from the easiest to measure (level 1) to the most
difficult (level 4). In general, the more levels
used to measure a training course or programme,
the more complete is the evidence of its
effectiveness.
l Level 1 – Measurement of trainees’ reactions
to the training (feedback).
l Level 2 – Measurement of learning gains, the
knowledge and skills acquired
