I hypothesize that the shift from outdoor to indoor play is due in large
measure to the twin forces of globalization and the increase in the use of
technology worldwide, phenomena observable since the last two decades
of the 20th century. This paper will discuss the shift from outdoor to indoor
play that has taken place in recent years, more specifically what has
happened and continues to happen in the French Caribbean island of
Guadeloupe, and the implications of this shift for children’s physical and
emotional development there.
