According to the results from a recent employment variation survey, formal employment in private, urban companies with ten or more workers grew 1.5 between October 2013 and October 2014.
Economic activities of service and commerce have seen a positive impact on employment of 3.6% and 0.8%, respectively.
Employment in Lima metropolitan area increased by 1.5%, mainly driven by higher demand of workers in activities of service (3.2%), commerce (1.4%) and transport, storage and communications (1.4%).
The service sector benefited from an increased number of workers in teaching and services to businesses sub-sectors.
The commerce sector, in turn, was driven by a surge in sales at supermarkets, as well as by stronger retail sales by companies involved in the production of textiles, garments, and leather goods.
Formal employment in major cities of the country also grew by 1.5%. Such a variation was observed in 19 out of 29 cities within the urban areas in the study.
