According to Dumont and Narine [9], the physical refining of
crude vegetable oil has several advantages over traditional alkali
refining, including a more facile procedure, higher product yield,
better energy conservation and reduced generation of environmental
pollutants. Conversely, physical refining is not suitable for all
oils, and the use of high temperatures and low pressures often
results in the formation of side products such as polymers and
trans isomers
