A very important and serious event in the school calendar is graduation. This is the ceremony at the end of the senior year, when seniors have passed all of their course and exams, and have finished high school. June is the mouth for graduation ceremonies across the country. Boys and girls wear a long gown and on their head they wear a flat hat called a mortar board. Parents arrive at the ceremony to watch their son or daughter receive their high school diploma. After the ceremony, parents may have a party with family and friends to celebrate. In the evening, the high school graduates usually have a big party, and they sign each other’s yearbook next to their photo. They write things like. “You have been a wonderful friend and I will always remember you!”
