Particularly encouraging results were achieved in the most severe multilevel and multifragment fractures of the shaft of femurs on which stable reduction and union of bone fragments seemed impossible, as any attempt of such a reduction would seemingly have led to bone devitalization. Functional treatment provides excellent and good functional effects and a significantly shorter time of healing in comparison with other techniques. Functional treatment is advocated for intraarticular knee fractures and fractures of the shaft of femurs for several other fractures.
