We Like to Do It in Groups
We get away with more when we do it in a group. One simple reason: The more people who are together; the less likely it-is that any one member will get singled out for attention. That helps to explain why people in larger groups have fewer restraints on their behavior. For example, we sometimes behave more wildly at costume parties or on Halloween than we do when others can easily identify us. We call this phenomenon deindividuation—a process whereby individual identities become submerged within a group.
