Excretion in insects
Metabolic wastes in insects are removed from the hemolymph by excretory organs known as malpighian tubules. Malpighian tubes are outpocketings of the digestive tract which, aside from removeing wastes, have the additional function of osmoregulation. Nitrogenous wastes are excreted from the hemolymph into the lumen of the tubules and travel by osmosis to the intestine and rectum for release from the body through the anus.
