SSF with S.cerevisiae mbc 2 for 48 h at 42 C is shown in Fig.6. The maximal ethanol concentration was obtained from pretreated Miscanthus containing 6% and 9% glucan with 4.11 g/L of cell mass: 29.5 + 1.99 g/L and 41.9 + 0.46 g/L, respectively. Their theoretical yield of ethanol were 86.3% (0.44+0.03 g/g) and 82.2% (0.42+0.015 g/g), respectively (Fig.6). However, fermentation with less than 3.08 g/L cell mass resulted in a lower ethanol concentration (7.3-36.9 g/L) and thereby resulted in a comparatively lower theoretical yield of ethanol (0.1-0.38 g/g). This finding may indicate that S.cerevisiae mbc 2 at 42 C was limited for high solid loading fermentation unless the cell mass exceeded 4.0 g/L. Meanwhile, Varga et al. [45] reported that in industrial-scale fermentation, a minimum ethanol concentration of 39.1 g/L (5%, v/v) must be produced to save the distillation costs. In this aspect, ethanol concentration of 41.9 g/L from pretreated Miscanthus by S.cerevisiae mbc 2 at 42 C mught be notable.
