Enhanced growth performance yielded by diets supplemented with low levels of
glycerin can be related to the efficient absorption of glycerol in the gut
favored by its small molecular weight (Min et al., 2010). In addition,
glycerol originated from CGL utilized in animal feeds readily enters
the gluconeogenesis pathway and either converted into glucose, the best energy source for cellular metabolism, or directly oxidized for energy
production via glycolysis in the citric acid cycle (Shurson et al., 2012).
