Goalkeeper: A position up for grabs with Swansea's Lukasz Fabianski, Maarten Stekelenburg of Everton and Hull's Eldin Jakupovic all producing fine displays, but it is Stekelenburg who claims the No. 1 jersey, thanks to "save after save," as Steve Nicol puts it. Mariner adds: "His magnificent saves secured the point." Ronald Koeman's new recruit had a strong debut, his save from Spurs' new boy Vincent Janssen being the pick of the bunch.
Defender: A defensive leader and a threat going forward, Curtis Davies was on top form for Hull in their shocking 2-1 victory against Premier League champions Leicester and drew a world class save from Kasper Schmeichel in the buildup to the Tigers' opening goal. "He did a great job keeping the champions quiet," says Paul Mariner.
Defender: Playing as a makeshift defender, Hull midfielder Jake Livermore helped keep Jamie Vardy and co. quiet and showed the kind of spirit the newly promoted Tigers are going to need this season if they are to compete at the top level. Nicol sums it up neatly, saying: "The stand-in stood out."
Defender: Eric Bailly has settled into life at Manchester United quickly and was named man of the match on his Premier League debut against Bournemouth. Gab Marcotti said: "Bailly has tons of personality to go with his athleticism. Once he gains experience, too, look out." Bailly has enjoyed a fine start to his career at the club -- he was named man of the match in last week's Community Shield win over Leicester too.
