emergent learners, though young, manifest high cognitive skills, both critical and creative thinking. they are very inquisitive of many things around them, familiar or unfamiliar, and are very creative in finding answers to their queries. they usually hypothesize, experiment and attempt to feed their curiosity while playing, running around the house and outside, observing and imitating actions of playmates and adults, listening and participating in adult conversations, closely watching and trying things seen on television, emulating actions and speech of the characters on the television programs, commercials and even of the adults, browsing and scrutinizing pictures in books, magazines and other print materials. above all these, they inquire a lot about how's and why's. they are not usually satisfied with the simple affirmative or negative responese, withthe simple answers to what, who and where questions. instead, they always make follow-up queries which seem infinite and they seem unsatisfied. emergent learners are indeed critical and creative, and which therefore must be develpoed through the support of the family and other literate adults and through exposure to positive learning opportunities and literacy materials.
