Take a few moments to think about the
time and energy you put into the relationships
you have with your patients, colleagues,
students, partner, friends, relatives, neighbours
and undoubtedly a few other groups of people
that you interact with. If someone had given
you 100 relationship tokens last week, how
many would you have spent on each of these
different groups of people? Take one minute
to jot down the different groups and people
you interacted with and then allocate each
them a percentage of your 100 relationship
tokens. I’ve just done that and used up the
100 tokens very quickly. Now, try and estimate
how many relationship tokens have been given
to you by other people in the last week. How
many have you received and who gave them
to you? Add up those relationship tokens that
you think you have received; is it more or less
than 100, the amount you started with? One
final question to reflect upon: did you give
yourself any of your own relationship tokens,
or did you give them all away?
