6.1. Demographic Characteristics. The study found the following demographic characteristics. Of the 192 subjects, there
were 92 workers exposed to the solvents (exposed group) and 100 workers not exposed to the solvents (nonexposed
group). Most of the workers exposed to the solvents were males (83 employees, 90.2%); most had an average age of
33.1 years (SD = 7.5) years; most of them (52 persons, 56.5%) graduated from high school; and 65 persons (70.7%) were married.
Concerning their smoking history, it was found that most of the workers (60 persons, 65.2%) were nonsmokers, and that most of those who smoked had been smoking for approximately 12.6 years (10.2%). Concerning their alcohol use, it was found that most of the workers (70 persons, 76.1%) were currently drinking alcohol (Table 1).
