Two productswere used to classify Built land coverwithin the study
area for both the 2000 and 2010 periods. Landsat 7 NDVI MVC images
were the primary data source and these products were supplemented
using Built classification products derived from ERS-2 (for 2000) and
ENVISAT (for 2010) radar images. NDVI images provided as part of the
LEDAPS reflectance products were extracted for the 2000 and 2010
Landsat 7 cloud-screened time series.Within the tropical areas toward
the southwest of the study area, Built LCLU is readily discriminated
from vegetation (natural and agricultural crops), as Built has low NDVI
MVC valueswhile vegetation is high. The climate of areas east of Kumasi
and northwest of Lake Volta is seasonal wet-dry, and LCLU includes savanna
vegetation and agricultural plots. For these areas, accurate identification
of Built LCLU with limited false classification is challenging
