The first statement in the Daodejing is: “The Dao that can be told of is not the eternal Dao.”
The idea of this statement is that the Dao cannot simply be explained in words. If you try to explain it, your explanation will be less the full reality of the concept.
The use of the term Dao may mean that there is one comprehensive Dao in all things.
We can call this a monist definition, meaning that all things in the universe are united within a single supernatural force.
