Among other things, the merchant who bought Aesop traded in slaves. When he travelled from town to town, each slave had to carry what was needed for the journey. Aesop asked that his size be taken into account and his work load not be too heavy yet, as he was a newcomer "Don`t worry. You needn`t carry anything." said the other slaves.
But Aesop wanted to play fair and insisted on carrying a pack like all the others. Since he was allowed to choose whatever he wanted to carry, Aesop picked the bread basket.
