A Perfect Weld design is designed by Larissa Sand for her own home. This is a unique design of residential and home office. Sand has always lived close to her work, but three years ago, she answered her wish to work from home. She and her husband, Jeff completed the conversion of a 1940s SoMa warehouse into their ultimate work/live space.
For Sand, that meant having a metalworking shop on the bottom floor. Offices for Sand Studios and Jeff’s industrial design company are on the second floor. The couple’s residence, where they live with their six-year-old daughter, is on the top level.
The office on the second floor features custom walnut desks designed by Sand Studios. The ceiling’s low height is counterbalanced by recessing the lights; the irregularly spaced rectangles result in a more naturalistic lighting effect. From the office, Sand and her staff have a view of the work being produced on the three welding tables.
Upstairs, the residence has also been laid out to create a feeling of expansiveness. The main space is an open kitchen, dining and living area, which overlooks the street corner and has large windows on two sides. Sand worked with San Francisco furniture gallery Dzine to pick out the major pieces of furniture, which all happen to be designed by Piero Lissoni.
