The
liquid fraction contains a high amount of oxygenate compounds
and, unlike hydrocarbons, the FID response to oxygenate compounds
is not proportional to their mass. Therefore, a calibration
has been carried out to calculate the FID device’s response factors
to chemical compounds with oxygen. The analysis of the gaseous
stream leaving the condensation system has been performed using
a micro-chromatograph (Varian 4900). It has four independent
modules which permit both identification and quantification of
different gaseous products previously calibrated. Furthermore,
prior to the chromatographic analysis explained before, the micro-
GC has also been used to determine the water yield, following
a similar procedure to that described for the standard gas chromatograph.
The identification of the components of the liquid
product has been performed in a GC/MS (Shimadzu UP-2010S)
and char has been characterized by means of elemental and proximate
analysis and higher heating value.
