YONG SOOK LIM GRADUATED FROM college a month ago
She lives in Seoul,Korea
She hes many questions about her future,
like most young people
Will she find a good job?
Will she be successful?
Will she have a family someday?
At the start of the new year
many Koreans go to fortune-tellers
This is called chom
This tradition is ancient in Korea
It is more than 4000 years old
Many people believe fortune-tellers know the future
there are lot of fortune- tellers in Seoul
they are in modern coffee shops all around the city
But chom is not cheap
It costs about U.S.$ 25.00.
many young people ,like Yong Sook
don,t like to do to coffee shops to see fortune- tellers
Sometimes they are embarrassed
Sometimes it is too expensive for them
Now they can go to fortune-tellers on the Internet
these fortune -tellers are usually free or very cheap
when Yong sook has a question about her future
she goes to a chom Web site
She types her birth date -the month
Day, year, and hour of her birth-on the computer.
these four important numbers are called saju
The fortune- teller uses this information to tell the future
Many young Koreans go to Internet fortune- tellers every week
Some say it is just for fun
It makes them feel happy
Chom is a very old tradition in Korea
But Yong Sook and her friends can use this ancient tradition in a modern way.
