This experiment showed that chewing behavior
differed a lot between animals, with important consequences
both on rumen and metabolic outcomes, and
especially a trade-off between rumen and blood pH.
This could explain why some animals might suffer from
acidosis, and others not, in a herd receiving the same
diet. It also showed that ruminal and metabolic acidosis
might be inversely related, and that some animals seem
to be more subjected to SARA, whereas others seem to
be more subjected to metabolic acidosis.
