Place a sterile bandage or dressing on the wound and firmly apply pressure. If necessary, wrap the bandage around the limb to aid in maintaining pressure on the wound. Bleeding from a damaged artery may necessitate the use of pressure points to slow the flow to a manageable level. The brachial, femoral, and popliteal arterial pressure points are often used to minimize bleeding from the arms, thighs, and lower legs, respectively.
