“Getting every employee's mind into the game is a huge part of what a CEO job is all about. Taking everyone's best ideas and transferring them to others is the secret. There's nothing more important.” - Jack Welch
It is a great opportunity if I were made as a CEO for a day. In fact, I can unlock my potential and prove my capacity to create a better organization. There are many people in the world who don’t know their passions and don’t know how to get to the position of CEO. Hence, I consider it a great opportunity to bring the revolutionary changes through innovative leadership methods, if I were CEO for a day.
I would call for a meeting to find out the challenges the company is facing and build a strong team based on their strengths. I would replace poor performers by good performers following Jim Collins’ sage words – “have the right people on the bus, and the wrong people off the bus.” I would build trust and be transparent in my functioning. I would share my vision and communicate it effectively for effective execution. I would listen patiently to all stakeholders and, through consensus; I would create a roadmap for effective execution. I would address the challenges the stakeholders are facing. I would empower the team members to execute with a result-oriented mindset and implore them to come to me if they faced major challenges. I would take feedback about their challenges during execution. If plans are not executed I would find out the reasons and realign the strategies to execute plans effectively. Finally, I would ensure that all stakeholders including employees, customers, suppliers, financial institutions and board members are happy during my stay. I want to prove that how long you lead is not important but how well you lead is more important. Remember, even one day is enough to bring out the desired changes in the system to make a difference.
“Where visionaries can be good at persuasion, CEOs are good at wielding authority. Visionaries transcend organizations, resources, and current realities, while CEOs master them.” - Bob Metcalfe
