4. Discussion
4.1. Copulation and egg hatching
In this study, the whelks began to copulate from November to
March of the following year, indicating a hatching period from January
to May when the sea temperature ranges from 21 °C to 26 °C;
this behavior of H. ternatanus is similar to that of H. tuba (Morton,
1986a, 1987). Polygamy was observed in many gastropods such as
B. undatum (Martel et al., 1986) and Neptunea arthritica (Miranda,
2008), but not observed in H. ternatanus in the present experiment.
This behavior of H. ternatanus might have been caused by the insufficient
number of mating individuals resulting from inconsistency in
sexual maturity time. Molecular analysis have been conducted to investigate
the multiple paternity in some gastropods
clam is similar to that in the oyster. The shrimp contains the lowest
amount of total amino acids and flavor amino acids compared to
other diets.
