Unfortunately, solution casting requires the use of environmentally damaging, volatile organic solvents to facilitate processing, and melt blending requires high temperature processing (220-250 C), which induces significant degradation of the homopolymer . Fujita et al investigated the structural reorganization of the blend of PLLA and
PDLA single crystals during the heating process, and found that the
stereocomplex crystallites can be formed through the structural
transition below the melting point of homocrystals. This finding
provides a new method to prepare PLLA/PDLA stereocomplex
materials in solid state.
