I agree with the statement that the destruction of the world’s forests is inevitable as human need for land and food resources grow year by year. According to the most recent United Nations estimates, the human population of the world is expected to reach 8 billion people in the spring of 2024. In the 20th century alone, the population increased from 1.65 billion to 6 billion. By 2025, people are estimating the population to hit 8 billion. (www.worlometers.com.info/world-population/).
As medicinal knowledge increased, the mortality rate steadily decreased – which is a great thing for human. Illnesses that would have killed people hundred years ago are easily cured. In the past, birth complication seems impossible to overcome but with the advance of medicinal technology, the problems are easily cured. Basically, less people die while more people live to a ripe old age than in years gone by. As a result, the need for land and food is growing along with our population.
Deforestation is considered to be one of the contributing factors to global climate change. Trees absorb greenhouse gases and carbon emissions. They produce oxygen and perpetuate the water cycle by releasing water vapor into the atmosphere. Without trees, forest lands can quickly become barren.
Seventy percent of the world’s flora and fauna live in the forests. Due to forestation, they are losing their habitats. Loss of habitat can lead to extinction. This is not a biodiversity tragedy itself but might as well lead to negative consequences in various fields. One of them is the medicinal supply and researches. Besides, the deforestation will leave a huge impact on the local populations who depend on the forests resources to survive.
